Liposuction Education

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess body fat. During this 45-minute to two-hour-long procedure, a surgeon creates several incisions in the skin, inserts a long narrow tube and vacuums out the fat. On average, liposuction requires a recovery time of two to three days. Liposuction is considered a permanent procedure and can be performed in a surgeon's on-site surgical facility or in a hospital. Usually, liposuction is performed on an outpatient basis, which means that patients can leave directly after their surgery. The most popular areas of the body to receive liposuction are the buttocks and stomach, though it is possible to use this procedure to also sculpt the neck, back, legs and arms. The best candidates for liposuction are individuals at a normal weight with relatively small, localized fatty areas. Potential liposuction patients should also have healthy self-esteem and realize that plastic surgery will not transform their bodies into entirely different forms but enhance and beautify what is already there.
